The GDPR is on it’s way!
In May legislation is changing. Currently companies are panicking about how they store, process and handle data. Some companies will be looking to get rid of stuff over 6 years old to comply and some companies will be putting stuff in storage in hard copy and online.
What does GDPR Stand for?
General Data Protection Regulation
How will the GDPR affect me and my business?
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) proposed by the European Commission represents the greatest change to data protection legislation since the internet was created way back when and not only impacts how businesses handle data but how they store data too.
One of the key elements is The right to be forgotten:
The broad principle underpinning this right is to enable an individual to request the deletion or removal of personal data where there is no compelling reason for its continued processing.
With paper files in particular, attempting to firstly locate and then erase all data on an individual could prove a time-consuming, difficult, and in the future, costly task if you don’t comply.
A lot of companies I speak to can’t be sure where all their paper records are located; are finding all are not stored in a secure location and finding they are stored across multiple sites. This is where we can help with our archive and retrieval service.
Now is a good time to go through all the records you have across multiple sites and place in one secure location.
By going through these files now it will stand you in good stead and ensure you are ready when the new legislation comes in on 25 May.
You can be confident that if asked you can find someone’s personal record and it is stored securely in one place.
